PAVLOV’s Picks: Sip on This – Our Top 5 Holiday Drinks around FunkyTown!

Since many of us won’t be traveling over the holidays, either due to the pandemic or because we are just avoiding our family/in-laws, we recommend traveling to the following watering holes to sip on #PAVLOVsPicks for the Top 5 Holiday Drinks around FunkyTown!

Smashing Pumpkins Latte | Roots Coffee House

Kick off the holiday season by meandering over to Roots Coffee House on South Main (as their neighbors, come drop by and say hello on your way). Mixed in with cookie butter and house-made pumpkin spice syrup, the Smashing Pumpkins Latte is sure to make your insides as velvety soft as their wall-length, green velvet couch. Roots’ relaxed vibe and tasty treats are bound to subside the holiday-craze. Be sure to ask for the “days special,” and, if you’re lucky, Roots has been known to experiment with flavors, making one-of-a-kind lattes. Here’s to hoping they bring back the Maple Bourbon Latte! #SantaPlease

Peanut Butter Old Fashioned | Wishbone & Flynt

Wishbone & Flynt, another Near Southside fave known for their small plates, has a big secret—The Amber Room! This adjoining speakeasy-esque bar offers a Peanut Butter Old Fashioned worth dying for. If you are trying to escape from the world or your responsibilities this holiday, no one will find you here! The exposed brick, Persian rugs, and chandeliers are at the top of our Christmas list. Go now, or yule be sorry!

Martin House Brewing Company | Pretzel Stout

It’s the most wonderful time for a beer. Head over to Martin House Brewing Company for the crowd favorite—the Pretzel Stout. This limited-release flavor, although strange to the ear, is absolutely sensational for your tastebuds. While many of their seasonal/taproom-only beers never make a comeback, the Pretzel Stout was brought back due to fervent and persistent demands. This “warehouse pub” is ideal for a chill get-together, and, the best part, your pup can come too!

Blackland Distillery | Pecan Pie Flip

Stop what you are doing. Nothing is as important as Blackland Distillery’s Pecan Pie Flip. Made with Blackland’s very own (and just released) Texas Pecan Brown Sugar Bourbon, the Pecan Pie Flip is the only thing you need to keep you warm this winter. Blackland was kind enough to even share their special recipe with us — 1.5 oz Blackland PBSB, .5 oz Blackland Rye, .5 oz heavy cream, .25 oz demerara syrup, 3 drops vanilla extract, 2 dashes Angostura bitters, and 1 whole egg. Combine all and shake hard without ice to emulsify the egg. Add ice and shake again. Fine strain into a coupe glass and garnish with fresh-grated nutmeg. Voila! Finally, we can switch out the eggnog for something everyone will look forward to.

Summer Moon Coffee | Autumn Moon Latte

Warning: Summer Moon’s new Autumn Moon Latte — consisting of its signature wood-fired espresso, sweet creamy Moon Milk, and organic, all-natural autumn spices — gives all who intake a sensory overload. Its rich and smooth taste is utterly divine, but the smell is downright intoxicating. This coffee smells so good that Summer Moon has, thankfully, released an Autumn Moon Latte Candle! If you want to get into the holiday spirit, we promise, this will do the trick. It is so good, it feels naughty! #SorrySanta
