A Day in the Life: Account Service Intern

Written by: Nicolas Ross

Wake up, shower, go to work, come home, hang out with friends, watch TV, go to bed. Ever since my junior year ended, this has been my established routine. At first glance, it sounds like a boring, typical day in the young adult life, but when you work at PAVLOV it is much more than that.

To start my day, I blast Red Hot Chili Peppers on the way to work, screaming the wrong lyrics and not caring at all. After pretending to be Anthony Kiedis, the lead singer of the band, I shift my mindset to advertising and walk in the office.

As I approach my desk next to all the account executives, a.k.a “AE Island,” I am usually greeted with a couple jokes or “Hey Nic’s.” Then, as I settle in and log on to my MacBook Pro, the real fun begins.

Without delay, I’m exposed to a plethora of opportunities within the agency. I assist writing creative briefs, develop site architectures, sit in on meetings with clients, and even write blog posts. I never realized the level of involvement being an intern at an advertising agency would entail. I thought internships were supposed to involve getting coffee for the employees and occasionally helping people out with low-level assignments…

I’ve never been so excited to be so wrong.

Although I’ve only interned at PAVLOV for three weeks, I’ve learned a lot about myself and the person I want to become. I’ve realized that being in a fast-paced and exciting work environment is exactly what I need. I tend to be the most organized and efficient version of myself when I’m balancing a lot of different tasks, and I’m confident that account service is the career path that I want to pursue.

Since the beginning of my internship, I’ve started two different books on advertising. The only other thing I’ve ever been this passionate about through my 21 years on this earth is golf, and even then, I didn’t read books about the sport in my free time.

I also learned I need to work in an office space that allows me to play music and socialize with the people around me. During my first week, the account executives were encouraging me to blast my music while everyone was working hard on their computers.

Although some people might be intimidated by the way PAVLOV immerses you in the culture and hands you a workload, it’s made me look forward to coming to work every morning.

Like I said, waking up, showering, going to work, hanging out with friends, watching TV and going to sleep isn’t the routinely boring day you might think it is when you work at a place like PAVLOV.
